Project 3
Reclaimed Architecture
A Dance Annexe
60% Individual
As the final part to the semester-long focus on the connections between dance, architecture, and people, we were tasked with designing an annexe to Encore Melaka for the showcase of dances from a local culture.
Reflection
As with all of my final studio projects so far, I am proud to say that I have really poured in all my feelings regarding the people that I designed this dance annexe for. I really felt inspired by the kinship and culture of the Kristang people, and I hoped that my design, however much a hypothetical, would be a place that everyone would be happy to be able to interact and learn from each other.
Going with a decentralised, more informal and unique concept was a bit daunting for me, a person who had always been afraid of getting out of their comfort zone, but in the end, I would say that I am happy that I managed to finally break out of the limits that I had always subconciously placed on my own work.
On the technical side of things, it was definitely a journey picking up three new software and making drawings digitally for the first time. It was an eye-opening experience as to the sort of things I would be able to produce in the future.
